TMJ Therapy

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the connecting piece between the jaw and the head. Many people suffer from pain caused by this joint and never receive treatment. The disorder can be difficult to diagnose because there are no set symptoms for everyone. Pain often occurs in a combination of the jaw, head, neck, shoulders and even back. Many patients also report a clicking, popping or snapping jaw, some with pain and some without.

A common cause of TMJ pain is malocclusion, or misalignment bite. In this case the upper and lower teeth do not come together correctly, resulting in disrupted placement of the jaw and surrounding muscles. With a properly aligned bite, TMJ symptoms are alleviated.
